Jesús García Foncillas

The doctor. Jesús García Foncilla López is the director of the Oncology Institute and director of the Oncology Department of the “Fundación Jiménez Díaz” University Hospital, director of the Translational Oncology Division of the Health Research Institute FJDUAM, Director of the cancer program of four university hospitals in Madrid: Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital,  Rey Juan Carlos University Hospital, Infanta Elena University Hospital and Villalba General University Hospital. He is also a professor of Oncology at the Autonomous University of Madrid and director of the Chair of Individualized Molecular Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid

He graduated in Medicine from the University of Zaragoza and received his doctorate from the University of Navarra, where he was director of the Department of Oncology and of the cancer pharmacogenomics laboratory at the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA), as well as professor of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Navarra.

He has held various positions both nationally and internationally: President of the X National Congress of the Spanish Cancer Research Association (ASEICA), President of the IV IV Congress of the Spanish Society of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacogenetics (SEFF), Co-coordinator of the Program of Genomics and Proteomics of the Network of Cancer Centers of the Carlos III Health Institute, Member of the Board of Directors of the Hereditary Cancer Section of the SEOM and of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Federation of Oncology Societies (FESEO). Since 1998 he has been a corresponding academician of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Zaragoza and since 2005 an Honorary Member of the Mexican Society of Oncology.

He has been vice president of the National Commission of Medical Oncology of the Council of Specialties of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs from 2007 to 2014. From 2012 to 2016 he chaired the Mediterranean Society of Oncology (MOS).

For his scientific career, he was recognized with  “La Razón” award for the best researcher of 2014. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Merck Salud Foundation, a trustee of the ECO Foundation (Excellence and Quality in Oncology), a member of the Scientific Committee of the Olga Torres Foundation, coordinator and scientific director of the OncoDNA Advisory Committee.

The professor GarcíaFoncillas was awarded the National Prize 2020 by the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain of which he was appointed an academic. And he has also been distinguished as the best researcher in Oncology 2020 by the newspaper La Razón. He is the author of more than 285 articles (Pubmed) and numerous specialized books.
