Dr. Pere Puigdomènech

He has a degree in Physical Sciences from the University of Barcelona and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. After a stay at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin, he joined the CSIC in 1981. He worked at the Institute of Molecular Biology in Barcelona, ​​of which he was Director until 2002. He was Director of the Agrigenomics Research Center (CSIC – IRTA-UAB-UB) in Barcelona between 2003 and 2013.

His recent research work has been related to gene regulation and the genomics of cultivated plants. He has published 185 scientific papers and hundreds of popular articles in international journals and the media.

Member of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (of which he chairs the Biological Sciences Section), of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, ​​of the European Academy, of EMBO, and as a foreign member of several European Academies.

He has chaired the CSIC Ethics Committee and is a member of the European Science Ethics Group of the European Commission and the French CNRS Council. He is a member of the ALLEA Executive Board, the INIA Scientific Committee and the INRA-CIRAD Ethics Committee.

He has received the Narcís Monturiol Medal for scientific and technological merit from the Generalitat de Catalunya (1992), the Fundació Catalana per la Recerca Prize (2000), the COSCE Prize for scientific dissemination (2013) and the European Prize for Scientific Dissemination of the University of Valencia (2019).
